Why You Should Take A Weaning Course
Introducing solids to your baby, also known as weaning, can be both an exciting and daunting time. Even as a Registered Nutritionist, I had plenty of questions when I was introducing solids to my firstborn! The information online, and even from Health Visitors, GP’s and Paediatric Consultants can often be confusing and conflicting. Fortunately, my nutrition knowledge and experience gives me an advantage when it came to separating the facts from the fiction. I also have first-hand practical experience with my two babies. After weaning my babies, I was determined to help other parents with their baby’s food journey. Hence the Yummy Tummy Nutrition Weaning Your Baby course was born! I have since helped lots of families introduce solids to their baby. Hearing back from parents after the course, exclaiming how useful it was made it all worthwhile. Being able to support and guide parents through this exciting stage is one of the best parts of my job!
There is no one size fits all when it comes to weaning your baby, which is probably why there are so many conflicting messages and so many questions around weaning. Finding the best method for you and your baby whilst ensuring they are getting all the nutrients they need is key. I am here to help guide you in the right direction, taking different situations into consideration. Let’s face it – every baby is different, and every food journey will be too!
Although the saying ‘food before 1 is just for fun’ is often banded around, this isn’t entirely true. Yes, it is a great time for your baby to experiment, explore and experience food but nutrition is still important. At around six months, breastmilk or formula becomes insufficient to cover a baby’s nutritional needs. This doesn’t mean that bang on six months your baby will likely to be deficient in key nutrients if they aren’t eating the right foods in the right quantities. However, some nutrient stores will be starting to get low and it is a good idea to keep them topped up so your baby is less likely to become deficient further down the line.
The weaning period should be thought of as a ‘window of opportunity’ -a time to expose your baby to a wide variety of tastes and textures whilst helping to ensure their nutrient stores are adequate. This course will help to put key nutrients and foods at the forefront of your mind. It will also offer advice to help to reduce the likelihood of fussy eating as your baby gets older.
Everybody wants the best for their baby but finding the information you can trust can be hard. Some information out there is evidence-based but unfortunately, there is plenty that isn’t! It appears everyone likes to have a say in what you should be doing too – be it grandparents, friends or your social media network. Yummy Tummy Nutrition’s Weaning Your Baby course will give you all the support and evidence-based information you need.
The Weaning Your Baby course is live and interactive, allowing plenty of opportunities to ask me questions as we go. It isn’t pre-recorded, generic or simply an information pack for you to work through and interpret yourself.
Which foods to start with, when to progress to other foods and meals, good methods to use, introducing common allergens, milk feeds (and more) is all covered in the Weaning Your Baby course.
Plus, if you start introducing solids and it isn’t going to plan or you have additional questions which pop up along the way you will get support from me, right up to when your baby is 12 months of age! This is such a valuable part of the Weaning Your Baby course and something parents are often extremely thankful for.
If your baby is aged 4 months or older, if you are getting ready to wean or have already started and need some advice, book a place on a Yummy Tummy Nutrition Weaning Your Baby course. I also offer bespoke, private weaning courses for you and your friends or family members. Get in touch to arrange your session at a time and date to suit you!
